Works on the new North Melbourne Station have started, as workers prepare to construct walls up to 30 metres deep.
Over 300 people will work on building the new station, located in a formerly industrial area near Laurens Street. Up to 330,000 tonnes of soil will be excavated from the site.
Eighty more jobs will be created when a manufacturing facility opens later this year in Deer Park. The facility will produce around 150 concrete segments per day, which will be used to line the project’s tunnels.
When the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025, the station will accommodate train platforms over 225 metres long and will be serviced by a fleet of new High Capacity Metro Trains.
