Winter works will see signalling, power and platforms upgraded on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 30 June to 8 July.

During the nine-day construction blitz, buses will replace trains between Westall and Pakenham. There will also be two weekends of works on the Cranbourne line.

Coaches will replace V/Line services on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines for the entire journey.

The works are to prepare for more trains, more often on the Cranbourne and Pakenham corridor, as 65 High Capacity Metro Trains are set to begin running from mid-2019 onwards.

Closing the line will mean the following works can be undertaken:

  • Building longer platforms at Dandenong, Hallam and Pakenham Stations to accommodate longer trains.
  • Installing overhead wiring between Narre Warren and Beaconsfield.
  • Upgrading the signalling between Dandenong and Pakenham.
  • Important maintenance works on the Gippsland line.

More details regarding buses replacing trains will be posted on our disruptions map.
