We've started construction for the West Gate Tunnel.
This month we're starting to set up the site where we'll launch our Tunnel Boring Machines.
The TBMs will dig through the ground, moving about 9 metres per day, churning through 1.5 million cubic metres of rock and soil.
It'll be brought out of the tunnel on a conveyor belt, into a massive shed, loaded onto trucks and taken to a processing site.
We'll be tunnelling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 18 months.
And when we've finished the project in 2022, Melbourne will have its alternative to the West Gate Bridge, the West Gate Tunnel.
