North East Link will deliver even more benefits for local residents, following recent discussions with Manningham, Whitehorse and Boroondara Councils.

In the City of Manningham, more parkland will be created at Bulleen Park, with Yarra River frontage being preserved and the local aero-modellers and archery grounds remaining.

The Freeway Golf Course in the City of Boroondara will retain its 18 holes, and extensive work to find a new home for the existing Tennis Centre on Bulleen Road is underway. The tennis centre at the current site on Bulleen Road will continue to operate until the end of 2022.

North East Link Project will also work closely with Boroondara City Council on the development of a masterplan for Koonung Creek, including planting an additional 4,000 trees.

Elgar Park in the City of Whitehorse will receive a massive upgrade including a new, multipurpose synthetic sports field, improved lighting and signage and better access.

Cycling and pedestrian paths will also be built across the north east, and a new shared-user bridge will be built across the Yarra River.

North East Link Project received planning approvals in December 2019, following one of the most comprehensive planning and approvals process ever conducted for a Victorian road project.

Early work on North East Link has started, and major construction will commence in 2021.
