Middle Gorge, Hawkstowe and Mernda stations have officially opened.

Trains are now running in Mernda for the first time in 60 years. The new stations are an extension of what was previously known as the South Morang line.

A total of 982 services will run through the three new stations each week.

Commuters have access to 3,000 car parks across the stations and will benefit from new community spaces, bike facilities and shared-use paths.

Landscaping works and other finishing touches are continuing while trains run through the corridor. There has been an emphasis on native trees and shrubs, with 120,000 already planted.

The Mernda Rail Extension took 18 months to build and was completed six months ahead of schedule.
