One of Victoria’s first High Capacity Metro Trains will feature work from First Peoples’ artists.
Sixty-five new trains are being developed in a $2.3 billion Public Private Partnership with the consortium, Evolution Rail. The trains will run on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines, following the upgrades that are currently in progress.
Four local Aboriginal artists and collectives have submitted artwork to be featured. The vibrant designs celebrate themes that range from meeting places to journeys, time and cultural diversity.
A panel of judges, including traditional owner representatives, will select one of the shortlisted designs for the train exterior.
The shortlisted artists are:
- Kirrae Whurrong woman Fiona Clarke (Warrnambool)
- Boon Wurrung man Adam Magennis (Mornington)
- Wurundjeri woman Mandy Nicholson (Hampton Park)
- Ballarat-based mob of three Koori men, Pitcha Makin Fellas, who belong to different language groups.
