A crew of 400 construction workers are working around the clock to complete major works on the Ballarat Line.

During the two week period:

  • a pedestrian overpass is being lifted into place at Bacchus Marsh Station
  • new track is being built at Maddingley, Ballan, Melton and near Caroline Spring
  • major work is taking place at Rockbank Station.

More than 885,000 hours have been worked on the project so far, with crews laying 26 kilometres of track, installing more than 40,000 concrete sleepers and 100,000 tonnes of ballast.

To do this work, coaches are replacing trains between Ballarat/Wendouree and Southern Cross Station from Monday 24 June to Sunday 7 July.

Trains continue to run between Ballarat and Maryborough, connecting with coaches to and from Southern Cross Station, and between Ballarat and Ararat. On Saturday 29 June, coaches will replace Ararat trains for the entire journey for V/Line maintenance works.

Passengers are asked to allow an extra 45 minutes travel time.
