Works ramp up to remove the Cardinia Road level crossing

Major works are underway to remove the level crossing at Cardinia Road in Pakenham and replace it with a road bridge.

Removing this level crossing will improve traffic flow, cut travel times and improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers in Pakenham and the surrounding areas.

Cardinia Road is one of the most congested level crossings, with the boom gates down for up to a third of the morning in peak times.

A temporary road is being constructed on the eastern side of Cardinia Road, to keep traffic moving while the level crossing removal takes place.

Cardinia Road is one of the 17 level crossings to be removed on the Pakenham Line, helping travellers in the south east get home safer and sooner.

The project is expected to be completed in 2021.
