A range of site investigations, including geotechnical investigations, are taking place to help inform planning and design for Stage 1 of Geelong Fast Rail.

What we are doing

Site investigations will take place in and around the rail corridor between Laverton and Werribee from July to the end of 2021, to gather detailed information of existing ground conditions. This information is crucial to help inform planning and design work.

These investigations will include:

  • non-destructive digging (NDD), which involves using a vacuum truck to excavate carefully into the ground to confirm an area is free of services
  • geotechnical drilling and testing to determine existing ground conditions, which involves drilling a borehole to monitor and measure ground water and gather samples
  • general surveys and inspections.

What to be aware of

These works are expected to be low impact however, please be mindful of the following:

  • at any given time, there will be machinery, vehicles and workers at different locations
  • traffic controllers and signage will be in place to assist with pedestrian and vehicle access and wayfinding
  • there will be periods of medium-level noise associated with NDD, drilling and soil testing works.

Hours of work

  • 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • 7am to 1pm, Saturdays

The timing of these works may change depending on weather and ground conditions.
