The Victorian Government committed planning funding in the 2021-22 budget for a potential future York Road Upgrade in Mount Evelyn. Our planning will seek solutions to improve safety and create more reliable journeys for road users travelling throughout Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and increase road network connectivity.

We’re investigating potential improvements along York Road between Swansea and Monbulk roads in Mount Evelyn, including potential improvements at the intersections at Swansea and Monbulk roads and to walking and cycling infrastructure.

We’re currently undertaking planning and development work to inform the York Road Upgrade. This includes traffic modelling, planning studies and environmental investigations. This work will allow us to understand environmental and social impacts, develop design options and confirm scope and costs of different options.

From Wednesday 6 April until Wednesday 27 April we consulted with the community and local businesses to help inform our planning and shape the development of design options via Engage Victoria.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback, it will help us understand how you currently use York Road as well as providing important local insights, including community views on access, efficiency, safety and potential improvements that we should consider.

Feedback is being considered in our planning to help shape the development of design options.

Timelines and milestones will be determined through our detailed planning work. A business case is currently being developed and our work is expected to be complete in early 2023.
