Overview

Planning is underway for potential future improvements along York Road, between Swansea and Monbulk roads in Mount Evelyn. We’re investigating solutions to improve safety and create more reliable journeys for road users.

As part of our planning, we’re also investigating potential future improvements at the intersections at Swansea and Monbulk roads and to walking and cycling infrastructure.

Planning and development

We're undertaking planning and development work to inform the upgrade of York Road, Mount Evelyn. This includes traffic modelling, planning and social studies and environmental investigations. This work will allow us to understand environmental and social impacts, develop design options and confirm scope and costs of different options.

A Business Case is currently being developed and our work is anticipated to be complete in 2023.

The Business Case is a comprehensive document that provides a detailed examination of the potential future upgrade to help inform government decision making.

Community and business feedback

From 6 - 27 April 2022, we asked the local community and businesses for feedback via Engage Victoria on the potential upgrade to York Road.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your views. Feedback has helped us understand how people are currently using York Road as well as views on access, efficiency, safety and what’s important in the local area. Via this feedback we found:

  • 96% of community and 78% of business respondents support the potential future upgrade of York Road
  • 85% of respondents have concerns regarding the current road, with traffic flow (68%), congestion (68%), bottlenecks at key locations (57%) and safety (54%) the top 4 issues identified
  • 55% of respondents said they walked and cycled in the area, with strong support for a separated walking and cycling path along the road to help make walking and cycling a more attractive option.

Feedback is being considered in our planning. For more information on what we heard, read the Community and Business Consultation Summary (PDF, 959.6 KB).
