Calder Park Drive Interchange

Overview

The project will:

• build a full diamond interchange at Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive, raising the freeway over Calder Park Drive
• close direct access points to Calder Freeway at Calder Park Raceway and Organ Pipes National Park
• increase the freeway speed limit to 100km/h at Calder Park Drive.

The interchange will improve safety and freeway access.

Next steps

The project is currently in the pre-construction phase. Key activities include:

• refining the interchange design and construction approach
• detailed environmental investigations to further understand flora and fauna which might be impacted by the interchange
• on-site investigations, including identifying underground utilities and testing ground conditions
• obtaining planning approvals
• preparing a Cultural Heritage Management Plan.

Once we have progressed these key activities, the project will enter the procurement phase to appoint a construction partner to deliver the new interchange.

Construction timelines will be confirmed once planning and environmental approvals are further progressed.

Site investigations

To help inform our planning, we’ll complete site investigations. At times, we may need to implement traffic control measures, including temporary lane closures, stop/slow traffic and reduced speeds. We’ll keep traffic disruption to a minimum and avoid busy periods.

Community feedback

From 26 November to 14 December 2021, we asked for community feedback via Engage Victoria. Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.

Feedback was considered in our planning and helped us understand how people currently use the road network as well as providing important local insights, including community views on access, efficiency, safety, environmental values and what’s important in the local area.
