Planning has progressed for future upgrades of Donnybrook Road between Mickleham Road, Mickleham and Epping Road, Woodstock.
We investigated solutions to improve safety, cater for population growth and increased traffic.
Options explored included:
- adding more road lanes
- upgrading intersections
- upgrading the Hume Freeway Interchange
- removing the Donnybrook Road level crossing
- building cycling and walking paths to improve connectivity.
Planning
Initial planning work was completed in late 2025 and included traffic modelling, engineering designs, construction assessments, economic modelling, and environmental investigations. This built on work previously undertaken by Transport Victoria.
This work gave us a complete picture of the area, allowed us to understand environmental and social impacts, develop project options, and determine costs of different options to help inform government decisions on funding for future upgrades.
Community feedback
From 23 June to 13 July 2025, we asked for community feedback to help inform our planning.
6795 responses were received to our polls, 744 comments were provided on our interactive map, and 139 people attended our 3 community pop-ups.
Feedback has provided important local insights that has helped us to understand community views on safety, traffic flow and what we should consider in our planning.
- The top 2 improvements that respondents would like considered is more road lanes and upgrades to the Hume Freeway Interchange.
- Respondents identified Polaris Road to English Street as the highest priority section of Donnybrook Road to upgrade. There was strong support to add new lanes to the Donnybrook Road bridge over the Hume Freeway and to upgrade the Donnybrook Road and Mitchell Street intersection.
- Feedback highlighted support for upgrading intersections (including Brookville Drive, Mitchell Street and Willaroy Boulevard) and the need to improve street lighting along the road.
- Respondents highlighted support for adding walking and cycling paths to improve connections between residential estates, schools and public transport.
