Why we have platform screen doors
Platform screen doors are are designed with your safety, comfort and accessibility in mind.
Glass barriers between the platform and the train tracks open automatically when trains arrive. Benefits include:
- Improved safety by preventing accidental falls, drops or unauthorised access to tracks.
- Enhanced efficiency to enable smooth boarding and alighting.
- Improved climate control on stations by reducing heat, dust, and air movement.
How to use platform screen doors
Keep clear of doors until boarding
- Platform screen doors remain closed until the train stops and lines up with the platform.
- Both the train doors and PSDs will then open at the same time.
- Stand to the side of the doors so people can exit the train first.
- Never lean on, push, or try to force open the doors.
Board promptly and safely
- Only board once both sets of doors have opened.
- Let people exit the train before you board.
- Hold your child’s hand, especially when boarding to ensure children remain with you, and secure prams at all times.
- Don’t rush or attempt to hold open closing doors.
Follow visual and audio cues
- Flashing lights and audio announcements will alert you to doors opening and closing.
- Avoid distractions near the edge on any train platform, especially when using mobile phones or headphones.
- Never attempt to board or exit a train once the doors begin closing.
Board at the right carriage
- Accessible boarding zones are marked clearly at the start of each platform where the front of the train stops.
- Passengers with disabilities, mobility devices or prams should use these zones and ask for assistance from staff if required.
