Station features
Arden Station’s entrance features massive brick arches, reflecting North Melbourne’s rich industrial history and character. The arches are made from precast concrete lined with more than 100,000 Victorian-made bricks— each one laid by hand.
Three 16m-long skylights provide natural light for the granite-paved concourse and platforms below.
Arden Station also has Victorian-first platform screen doors for better safety, climate control and less noise.
Precinct features
The streets around Arden Station are designed for walkability and pedestrian safety, with wide footpaths and a signalised crossing on Laurens Street to the station entrance.
Around the station you will also find:
- a public terrace with tiered landscaping, retail and seating areas.
- predominantly native landscaping with tree pits and garden beds surrounding the entrance
- new tree plantings to capture stormwater, provide shade and improve air quality.
Floodproofing
As the Arden precinct is prone to flooding, the station surrounds have been designed so that stormwater runoff is slowed and collected for re-use via rain gardens, street planters and other water-sensitive urban design features. The entrance is also raised 1.5m above ground level.
Accessibility
Arden Station’s main entrance on Laurens Street will be accessible via lifts and ramps. Universal access parking bays will be located right outside the Arden Station entrance.
The station also includes escalators and lifts, Tactile Ground Surface Indicators, braille and tactile signs, and more accessibility features.
