Fauna Sensitive Road Design (FSRD) is a process that helps reduce the impact of roads on wildlife by lowering animal–vehicle collisions and keeping habitats connected.
One of the biggest challenges is turning ecological knowledge into practical designs that can be built and delivered on site. There’s also limited guidance available, especially when it comes to designing wildlife crossings, that can be readily applied within standard engineering and delivery models.
To address this, VIDA Roads has developed new FSRD Guidelines – providing clear, practical advice on how to design and deliver road projects that better protect wildlife, including detailed guidance on fauna crossing structures.
The guidelines are supported by an interactive web app featuring 360-degree visuals of common crossing designs.
Join VIDA Roads ecologists Dr Austin O’Malley and Dr Helen Vickers as they introduce the guidelines and share real-world examples of FSRD in action.
