ecologiQ Greener Infrastructure conference a roaring success

The ecologiQ Greener Infrastructure Conference has been hailed a success after almost 1,000 people from across industry, government and the circular economy sector gathered in Melbourne.

Over 2 days, delegates, exhibitors, speakers, suppliers and manufacturers came together to learn more about how recycled materials are being used in transport infrastructure construction, and to explore how we can do more to help solve the global waste crisis.

The conference began with sold out site tours that gave participants a firsthand look at some of Victoria’s innovative suppliers of recycled products, along with flagship projects that are leading the way in creating greener infrastructure.

Delegates also were able to explore the trade hall with more than 35 suppliers of recycled products showcasing their ability to turn waste into construction materials.

Major Road Projects Victoria CEO Allen Garner kick started Day 2 with a keynote address that highlighted the recent progress since the introduction of the Recycled First Policy and the creation of ecologiQ.

But rather than celebrate this progress, he challenged participants to continue to push the boundaries in order to overcome an unsustainable reliance on landfill to dispose of household waste.

A range of experts from industry to circular economy also joined panels to discuss barriers to achieving greater outcomes and how greater collaboration can overcome them.

It’s hoped the conference will act as a catalyst for continued growth in the use of the recycled materials, with more than 2,000,000 tonnes committed to be used on Victoria’s, $90 million Big Build projects already.
