Freedom of Information requests
The Victorian Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) gives you the right to apply for access to documents held by Victorian Government departments and agencies, including the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA).
Under the FOI Act, you can also ask VIDA to correct or amend information it holds about you where it is inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or misleading.
When we refer to 'VIDA', we mean VIDA and each of its 5 Project Offices:
- VIDA Rail
- VIDA Roads
- VIDA Metro
- VIDA Health
- VIDA Community Safety
(together VIDA's Project Offices).

Before you make a request for access
We encourage you to check if the information or document you are seeking is already publicly available such as in the Department of Transport and Planning annual report, our FOI Information Statements or elsewhere on this website.
Where you cannot find the information or document you are seeking, we encourage you to call our Contact Centre on 1800 105 105 or email the relevant contact listed on this page and ask if the information or document you are seeking is available or can be provided to you.
In certain instances, we will be able to provide you with the information you are seeking without requiring you to make a formal request for access.

What you need to provide to VIDA
To lodge a valid FOI request, you must provide VIDA with:
- a written request specifying which documents you seek access to
- an application fee of $33.60 (as at 1 July 2025) payable by cheque to the Department of Transport and Planning or by credit card through the Victorian Government Freedom of Information Online request portal. Alternatively, you may request that the application fee be waived or reduced by providing evidence of financial hardship (such as a copy of your health care card).
If you are seeking access to documents containing personal affairs information (Document affecting personal privacy) held by VIDA about yourself or someone else, please also provide:
- photo ID (if you are seeking access to documents containing information about you)
- if you are seeking access to documents containing information about someone else, a signed authority from that person permitting you to receive documents containing their personal affairs information.
Online portal
You can also make an FOI request online using the Department of Justice and Community Safety Freedom of Information portal.
You will need a credit card to complete this application online. Select the 'Department of Transport and Planning' as the agency or organisation you wish to seek documents from and include in your FOI request details section that you are seeking documents held by VIDA. The Department of Transport and Planning will then notify VIDA of your FOI request for processing.
Please note that if you apply through the portal, your request will not be received by VIDA immediately, as the Department of Transport and Planning will need to redirect it to VIDA.
