Major milestones reached

Major works are underway to remove the Clayton Road and Centre Road level crossings and to rebuild Clayton Station.

Construction works have ramped up significantly, with a number of major project milestones achieved. This brings us one step closer to removing two of Victoria's worst level crossings.

In late July, the Clayton Station precinct transformed with three of four haunches placed on the piers at the Clayton Road level crossing.

The haunches will support the horizontal beam which will be placed over the Clayton Road level crossing in mid to late August.

Clayton is undergoing one of the biggest transformations in its recent history, with the new elevated rail removing the existing barrier between the community and making it easier to get to key destinations such as the Monash Medical Centre and Monash University.

Disruptions

We are working hard to minimise disruptions, with trains running the majority of the time. However, there will be some disruptions as we deliver this significant project.

Rail disruptions

  • Buses will replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong stations from Saturday 2 September 12.30am to Sunday 3 September (last service).

Road disruptions

At the level crossing on Centre Road there will be lane closures until November 2017.

Two-way traffic will be generally maintained, however at times eastbound traffic will need to follow detour signs.

Clayton Station design

In early July we released the design for the new, elevated Clayton Station, which will be rebuilt in the current location of Clayton Station.

The final design includes key changes including a reduction in the height of the station canopy, along with a larger station forecourt. The design includes a dedicated bus link road located between Carinish and Haughton Roads which will improve commuter safety.

Getting on with the job

Over the coming month, construction of retaining walls will begin and piers and beams for the elevated rail structure will continue to be installed beside Carinish Road.

Over the coming months we will continue to construct the new Clayton Station with platform, canopy and concourse works.

Supporting local traders

We are working hard to minimise the impacts of construction and making sure customers can access local shops and businesses at all times. Our trader care team recently visited businesses in Clayton to introduce an initiative called the Small Business Mentoring Service.

This confidential service provides traders with marketing advice, help with a business strategy, or ideas to address current challenges. The project is offering every trader directly impacted by the project works three free sessions with a friendly mentor.
