Say hello to Dandenong's new artwork
Hand painted artwork by Angharad Neal-Williams is the newest addition to Woodcock Reserve and across Dandenong.
Located along the walking and cycling path beneath the rail bridge in Woodcock Reserve, Ways of Wandering is a mural celebrating the ways green spaces and the natural environment bring communities closer together.
Working with the Dandenong community to explore themes of nature, togetherness, and community, Angharad's artwork captures the way green spaces connect us to nature and each other.
Designs were inspired by workshops with the local community at Dandenong South Primary School, Dandenong Market and Dandenong Library, filling the mural with colour and life, featuring plants, flowers and bird life that can be found in the Dandenong Creek, Dandenong Park and Woodcock Reserve surrounds.
Scenes of local gatherings and play add to a sense of togetherness, reflecting the connection between community and nature.
Angharad Neal-Williams hand painted artwork also features on signal boxes and electrical cabinets on the corner of Dow Court and Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street and Cheltenham Road and Hammond Road.
Inspired by themes explored in drawings by students from Dandenong South Primary School, these artworks depict the ways the local community move through the area and feature scenes of quiet movement, transition, wandering and time spent with others.
"The combination of elements in the artwork create a warm, serene design that has a sense of play, togetherness, joy and wonder, all embedded in nature and community," says Angharad.
"I hope everyone can see themselves in the artwork, or they feel a sense of familiarity to the characters in the design."
