UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Webster Street, Dandenong

We’re closing Webster Street at the level crossing and building a new road under the rail line, connecting Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street to Cheltenham and Hammond roads.

We're also building a new walking and cycling path along Webster Street, connecting to the existing Dandenong Creek Trail and providing safer pedestrian and cycling access under the rail line.

The new road underpass will reduce congestion, deliver a more reliable road network and prepare Dandenong for future development.

Once the level crossing is closed, Webster Street will be quieter for local residents.

Removing the level crossing will eliminate more than 60 minutes of boom gate down time in the morning peak, saving travel time for up to 10,000 drivers each weekday.

Planned timeline

Construction is underway and the new walking and cycling path will open later this year, before Webster Street is closed at the level crossing.

The Webster Street  level crossing will be closed to vehicles in Spring, and the new road underpass will open in 2026 – 2 years ahead of schedule.

Getting rid of this level crossing will make the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines boom gate free in 2025.
