August construction blitz for Webster Street

Back to Newsfeed

We’re getting on with works at Webster Street, Dandenong, with a 12 day construction blitz kicking off this weekend.

Buses will replace trains on sections of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 8.30pm, Friday 1 August to Wednesday 13 August.

During this time, we will work 24/7 to complete signalling and overhead wiring works, and piling for the new road underpass. More than 50 piles will be drilled during the blitz and more than 350 cubic metres of concrete will be poured.

Other works will include starting of excavation for the new road underpass, moving services and utilities and installing new overhead electrical infrastructure for the new rail bridge.

Construction is also underway on the new walking and cycling path along Webster Street in Woodcock Reserve. The new path will run along the south side of Dandenong Creek under the rail line, linking with the Dandenong Creek Trail and connecting residents to local shops and services in Dandenong’s CBD.

The Webster Street level crossing will close this spring, and the new road underpass will open in 2026, 2 years ahead of schedule.

The new underpass will reduce congestion, deliver a more reliable road network and prepare Dandenong for future development.

Removing the level crossing will eliminate more than 60 minutes of boom gate down time in the morning peak, saving travel time for up to 10,000 drivers each weekday.

Getting rid of the crossing will also make the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines boom gate free this year, with passengers able to access 5 state-of-the-art underground stations when the Metro Tunnel opens later this year.
