27 January 2026

We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges. We've already closed the Bear Street, Mordialloc level crossing and are building a new Mordialloc Station.

What we’re doing

Major construction is continuing throughout January and February as we continue to build the new rail bridges and install the new Mordialloc Station buildings and rail systems. During this time, we’ll:

  • continue piling, earth and rail bridge construction works
  • deliver and install large, prefabricated station buildings and materials
  • install underground services at the Nepean Highway and Hearle Avenue intersection
  • carry out electrical and signal upgrades, install cables and remove overhead wires in the rail corridor.

We’ll be in touch with directly impacted residents and traders in advance.

Our usual working hours are Monday to Sunday 7am to 7pm. We’ll make every effort to complete these works on schedule, however dates are subject to change.

What to expect

  • Increased construction activity, machinery, vehicles, workers, intermittent road closures and some delays.
  • Additional lighting at night near works areas, directed away from residential properties where possible.
  • Noticeable construction noise, dust and vibration near works areas.
  • There may be temporary utility service interruptions to properties. Utility companies are responsible for notifying customers of any interruptions. Please contact your utility provider if you have any questions.

Upcoming nightworks

To complete essential rail bridge works, we are working 24/7 within the rail corridor between Como Parade West, Parkdale and Eulinga Avenue Aspendale, during the following times:

  • Ongoing to Friday 23 January.
  • Wednesday 28 January to Friday 27 February.

During this time, you may notice increased noise and vibration, particularly during piling in Aspendale between Ruvina Street and Eulinga Avenue from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 February.

To minimise disruption to daytime traffic, oversized deliveries will arrive between 11pm and 5am on various dates until late February 2026.

All deliveries to the construction site will be via Albert Street, Park Street, Governor Road, and McDonald Street.

McDonald Street closure between Albert Street and Main Street Service Road

To safely construct the new Mordialloc Station platforms, McDonald Street will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians at times in January and February. See table below for dates and times.

During this time:

  • Vehicles will be detoured via White Street and Edithvale Road.
  • Pedestrians will be detoured via the Bear Street pedestrian crossing.
  • Please expect delays and allow extra time, dates and timing below.

Parking changes on Nepean Highway and Hearle Avenue, Aspendale

We’re beginning major works to build the new signalised intersection at Nepean Highway and Hearle Avenue. As part of the final design, which we shared in April 2025, some parking spaces will be permanently removed to support safer traffic movements and the new road layout.

  • Nepean Highway: Room for up to 18 cars within the parking lane on Nepean Highway will be removed from just south of Hearle Avenue to Watkins Street to allow for the required road width near the new signalised intersection.
  • Hearle Avenue: Parking for up to 3 cars on Hearle Avenue, near Hearle Lane, will be reduced to room for one car to allow vehicles to safely pass each other at the new traffic lights.

Around 30 new car spaces and a new car turnaround will be created on Station Street, near Mordialloc College, where the level crossing will be removed. View the fact sheet on our website to find out more about parking changes in Mordialloc and Aspendale.

Changes to the way you travel
