18 June 2024

The Victorian Government is removing 27 dangerous level crossings and building 17 new stations, making the Frankston Line level crossing free by 2029 and improving safety, reducing congestion, and allowing more trains to run more often. We’re removing the level crossings at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale, and building a new Parkdale Station.

We will work 24-hours from 9pm Sunday 14 July to early August to remove the level crossings at Warrigal and Parkers roads.

During this time trains will not run on sections of the Frankston line. There will also be changes to how you drive, walk or cycle through the local area.

In early August, the new Parkdale Station will open, with construction on the station continuing into spring. During this time, there will be stair access only to platforms. A shuttle service will continue to operate between Mentone and Mordialloc stations for passengers who are unable to use the stairs. We will keep you informed about when the station will be complete and the lifts in use.

What we’re doing

During July we will:

  • remove the temporary track that trains have been running on
  • continue work on the new Parkdale Station, including installing the lift shafts on the Como Parade East side of the rail bridge
  • install signalling and overhead wiring on the new rail bridge
  • build the retaining wall and complete the rail embankment at the northern end of the rail bridge
  • complete road and kerb reinstatement.

Works will take place during the following times:

  • 7am to 6pm weekdays
  • 7am to 3pm Saturdays
  • 7pm to 7am nightworks Tuesday 9 July to Friday 12 July (and as required)
  • 24-hours from 9:30pm Sunday 14 July to early August

What to expect

  • Crews using the site office, compounds and laydown areas
  • Moderate to high noise and vibration from machinery, including cranes, excavators and trucks
  • Minor delays and detours on roads and footpaths, and lane closures
