Facilitated by LXRP, the session started with an Acknowledgement of Country and welcomed participants to the first online community information session for the Mt Derrimut Road Level Crossing Removal Project.

The session commenced with an update on the Robinsons and Fitzgerald roads level crossing removal project.

A general Mt Derrimut Road level crossing removal project update was provided, summarising:

  • Why the level crossing has to go and the project benefits
  • How we will build a rail bridge over the road
  • The new Deer Park station precinct – open in 2024
  • Major works in the area

Members of the project team shared drone footage and provided an update on works in the area:

  • Site offices have been set up near Deer Park Station and Station Road
  • Temporary fencing installed around work and protected habitat areas
  • Temporary commuter car park, bus stops and pick up/drop off area now open
  • Utility service relocation commenced
  • Retaining wall and bridge foundation works underway
  • The project will work overnight Monday to Friday to build concrete bridge supports near Deer Park Station from Monday 12 September to mid-October 2022

The team also shared information about upcoming travel disruptions, available on the project’s web page.

A summary of the ongoing community engagement activities was presented, including an overview of the range of communication materials, channels and activities used to keep the community informed and respond to queries during construction.

The project team answered questions from participants, including:

  • The length and height of the completed rail bridge
  • Compatibility with future potential rail line upgrades
  • Traffic disruptions and rail line closures
