2 February 2020
The dangerous and congested Toorak Road level crossing will be gone for good more than 6 months ahead of schedule, with traffic set to flow freely and trains travelling over the new rail bridge in April.
Construction activity will reach its peak in the coming months.
Throughout January and February 2020, concrete structures to support the new rail bridge will be installed in Talbot Crescent and Tooronga Park.
The retaining wall in Tooronga Park is also taking shape, with several panels installed in December 2019. The rail bridge’s retaining walls are comprised of 64 panels weighing up to 20 tonnes each. Following community feedback, the retaining walls will be a natural colour softened with a textured finish.
Thanks for your ongoing patience as we work to remove the boom gates, easing the bottleneck for 37,000 vehicles each day.

Upcoming changes to the way you travel
In February 2020, we are working towards building your new rail bridge.
We have planned our works to avoid peak hour closures of Toorak Road, minimising the impact on road users. Upcoming off-peak road closures include:
2 to 7 February 2020: Overnight (10pm –to 5am) full closures of Toorak Road in each direction between Elizabeth Street and the Monash Freeway intersection. Road detours will be in place via Tooronga, Malvern, Glenferrie and Burke roads.
21 to 24 February 2020: We will be working around the clock from Friday 21 February until Monday 24 February 2020. Toorak Road will be closed in each direction between Elizabeth Street and the Monash Freeway intersection, and buses will replace trains on the Glen Waverley line between Burnley and Glen Waverley stations.
Additional information about these closures will be available through:
