Your new Ringwood East Station

The new Ringwood East Station is now open to passengers with trains running through a new rail trench beneath Dublin Road.

The new station is safer, more accessible and features:

  • A main concourse
  • Platforms accessible by lifts and stairs
  • Upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths
  • Upgraded parking with more accessible parking
  • New lighting and CCTV

Finishing works around the station

Crews will continue completing the second entrance to the station, as well as adding the finishing touches to Ringwood East Station and the surrounding precinct until spring 2024.

Works include landscaping that will see more than 60,000 trees, shrubs and grasses planted in the local area. We’ll also work on the remaining station car parks and shared use paths that will enable safer and more accessible connections to the station and shopping precinct.

We’ll continue to keep the local community informed of upcoming works and disruptions.

We’d like to thank the community for your patience as we completed these important infrastructure works in your area.

Boom gates gone for good

We have removed the dangerous and congested level crossing at Dublin Road, Ringwood East and built a brand-new Ringwood East Station.

Dublin Road re-opened to traffic on 15 June with pedestrians and traffic able to safely travel along the level crossing-free road, which previously saw vehicles stuck at the boom gates for up to 23 minutes during the morning peak.

The new Ringwood East Station is now open with trains running through the new rail trench. The station features a main concourse, platforms that are accessible by lifts and stairs, and upgraded pedestrian and cycling paths.

Works to complete the second station entrance and put the finishing touches on station facilities and the surrounding precinct will continue until spring this year.

The Dublin Road level crossing removal follows the boom gates gone at Bedford Road, Ringwood earlier this year, which saw the Belgrave Line become level crossing free between Ferntree Gully and the city.

We thank residents, traders and commuters for their patience while crews completed major construction works, which has made the Lilydale Line the first train line in Victoria to be level crossing free.

Lilydale Line level crossing free ahead of schedule

We’ve marked a major milestone by making the Lilydale Line the first rail line in Victoria to be level crossing free in 2024 – a year ahead of schedule.

The major construction blitz saw crews remove the last remaining level crossings on the Lilydale Line at Dublin Road, Ringwood East, Coolstore Road, Croydon and Cave Hill Road, Lilydale, and build 2 brand new stations at Ringwood East and a new station opening at Croydon later this month.

We also removed the level crossing at Bedford Road, Ringwood earlier this year, which makes the Belgrave Line level crossing free between the city and Ferntree Gully.

The Belgrave/Lilydale line is the second busiest train line on Melbourne’s network and these works are part of the biggest upgrade on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines since they were electrified in the 1920s.

The Level Crossing Removal Project has now removed 12 level crossings on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines.

The Victorian Government has committed to removing 110 dangerous and congested level crossings by 2030, with 82 already gone for good.
