Works are ramping up to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at Manchester Road, Mooroolbark, and Maroondah Highway, Lilydale.
The rail bridge design will minimise construction time and also reduce disruptions to the Lilydale line and 53,000 vehicles that pass through Manchester Road and Maroondah Highway level crossings on a daily basis.
Final designs released
We’ve been busy refining the final designs for the Manchester Road and Maroondah Highway level crossing removal projects. The final designs showcase the new Mooroolbark and Lilydale stations, their surrounding precincts, and the new multi-deck car park at Mooroolbark.
Both station designs feature clock-towers, lifts, improved access for all, lighting and CCTV. Canopies covering three-quarters of the station platforms will provide better shelter from the elements for rail passengers.
Soft earthy tones, weathered steel, zinc and Coldstream stone will feature in the new station to complement the local area, based on community feedback. We’ll create new open spaces for the community to gather, and plant 60,000 trees, plants, shrubs and grasses.
