As one of 5 Alliances established to deliver level crossing removal works, in its 4 years since inception, the North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) has successfully removed 8 level crossings and constructed 4 new stations. In 2020 NWPA commenced works on an additional 5 level crossings and 3 new stations in Preston and Glenroy. These projects not only create thousands of jobs for the community, but they provide a safer transport system and allow the community to travel in a more efficient manner.
Prioritising stakeholders, communities and the environment, NWPA has been determined to progress with work and achieve goals. This includes helping remove some of Melbourne’s most congested and dangerous level crossings while enhancing the local area through increased open space.
NWPA integrated several new sustainability initiatives, in collaboration with private industry and universities, on projects. Clever solar panel integration and indigenous co-design being just 2 examples. The Alliance hope these and many of their other achievements change the baseline for future construction projects in Australia.
NWPA’s focus on innovation encompasses our commitment to make decisions that protect our environment. From on-site controls to office management, materials consumption, and water and ecological protection, the Alliance strive to prioritise the environment in everything they do. NWPA seek to consistently develop design solutions that minimise their carbon footprint, material consumption and environmental impacts during construction and over the life of the assets built.
NWPA always seek to push boundaries and drive change in the construction industry. Some of these endeavours and strategies are shared in the 2020 Sustainability Annual Report.
