The Level Crossing Removal Project’s commitment to removing 110 dangerous and congested level crossings by 2030 continues to be guided by the project’s Sustainability Plan and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
As such, the LXRP works in alignment with alliance partners such as the North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) to deliver infrastructure projects that achieve long-term benefits for the environment and the community.
In 2022, LXRP nominated NWPA as the “sustainability champion” of its program for continuing to promote sustainable practices and for always looking for new ways to deliver low-carbon, resilient and inclusive infrastructure that leaves an enduring legacy.
Key to this agenda were NWPA’s Glenroy and Preston level crossing removal projects, which were largely completed in 2022 with excellent sustainability credentials, including significant energy reductions and outstanding improvements to ecological value.
NWPA’s sustainability credentials were also recognised by the wider industry in 2022, with the Bell to Moreland project winning the Future Places award at the coveted National Banksia Sustainability Awards, and the Alliance taking home the prize for the Industry Leader award in the Sustainable Places and Destinations category at the Premier’s Sustainability Awards.
