Keon Parade will be boom gate free by spring 2024

The team is working ahead of schedule to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing at Keon Parade.

City-bound trains will run on the new rail bridge from Monday 22 January. Major construction will continue on the Mernda-bound rail bridge and the new Keon Park Station, which will be open by spring 2024. Once the second 750m long rail bridge is complete, the 18,000 vehicles that travel on Keon Parade each day will no longer have to stop for trains.

When the new station opens on the southside of Keon Parade, it will provide better connections between bus and train services. There will also be a new connection from High Street through the station to the Johnson Street shops.

The vibrant new station will feature a landscaped forecourt, elevated platforms with access via lifts and stairs, shelter and lighting, CCTV, a secure Parkiteer bicycle storage and walking and cycling paths through the precinct.

What to expect during our 24/7 January works

From 9pm, Thursday 11 January to 5am, Monday 22 January 2024 our team will work 24/7 to get the city-bound rail bridge ready for trains and demolish the old Keon Park Station.

Works will include:

  • removing old station platforms, tracks and rail infrastructure
  • tying in existing tracks with the new
  • commissioning the new city-bound rail bridge and running test trains

We’ll also start work on the Mernda-bound rail bridge and continue building the new Keon Park Station.

When trains start running on the completed rail bridge to Flinders Street Station, the team will work on the second bridge. Passengers travelling to the city will have a great view of the workers building the Mernda-bound rail bridge and the brand new Keon Park Station.

Changes to the way you travel in January

There will be changes to how you travel while we finish the city-bound rail bridge.

Buses replace trains

Buses will replace trains on the Mernda Line between Reservoir and Epping stations from 9pm, Thursday 11 January to last service Sunday 21 January 2024.

Plan your journey on the PTV website.

Please allow extra travel time.

Road and lane closures

Keon Parade will close overnight from 9pm, Thursday 11 January to 5am, Friday 12 January.

At other times we will close some lanes to keep drivers and our workers safe. Please follow signage and instructions from traffic management.

Keon Park Station closed

As part of our works in January, we will close Keon Park Station. The existing station will be demolished and the team will begin working on the brand new station. While the station is closed, a shuttle bus service will run between Ruthven and Thomastown stations to take passengers to the Keon Park Station precinct. The new Keon Park Station will be open by spring 2024.

Reservoir and Thomastown are open for business

The Wyncity Bowling Keon Park team share a passion for bowling and are looking forward to Keon Parade being level crossing free.

They are thankful for the unwavering support of the local community.

At risk of losing their bowling lanes due to the challenges posed by the pandemic, the Thomastown and Reservoir community united and paved the way for Wyncity to become a reality.

It was dedication and a community voice that reinvigorated the bowling centre, which reopened as Wyncity in 2021.

Wyncity is Victoria's premier bowling centre, and a place for all. To their community, it represents safety, friendship, and above all, a sense of belonging. A short walk from the new Keon Park Station, Wyncity is also undergoing renovations, with expanded seating and more arcade games. The new and improved community hub will be up and running by the end of year. Wyncity caters to all, hosting birthday parties, corporate events, school holiday programs, disability initiatives, sports leagues, and a variety of other social activities.

The team is ready to get you bowling!
