Say hello to Keon Park Station’s new art
We’ve removed the dangerous and congested level crossing at Keon Parade by building a rail bridge over the road. The brand-new Keon Park Station opened to passengers in June.
Dianella Dwelling by Joanne Mott is the newest addition to the Keon Park Station precinct.
The distinctive sculpture celebrates the local endangered Dianella amoena flower, commonly known as the matted flax-lily.
The interactive sculpture will stand 4.5m tall and 3m wide providing an eye-catching meeting place for the community.
This artwork aims to create awareness and foster appreciation for the beauty and importance of local plants, particularly their often-overlooked tiny flowers.
Made from colourful powder-coated aluminium and steel, this sculpture reflects the three-part geometry of the Dianella flower.
Six violet purple petals form the top awnings of the artwork, 6 light green legs will anchor the sculpture on the ground, and a yellow dome on top draws the piece together, representing the centre of the flower.
Located on the High Street side of the station precinct, Dianella Dwelling will be positioned near the southern entrance with footpaths on multiple sides, celebrating the new pedestrian access that connects the community to the new station.
The sculpture will be installed in spring.
Meet the artist – Joanne Mott
Artist Joanne Mott designed Dianella Dwelling as a contemporary sculpture referencing the form and concept of the endangered Dianella amoena flower.
“Like a park rotunda, the sculpture provides a place for gathering, rest and playful interaction,” says Joanne.
“As a distinctive landmark, it adds a unique sense of place to Keon Park Train Station.”
Joanne’s work focuses on themes of environment, sustainability and connection to place.
Dianella Dwelling will be manufactured and painted by local suppliers.
