We’re busy building Pakenham’s new 2.5km rail bridge which will create more than 6 MCGs worth of new open space for locals to enjoy.

In late 2021, we asked the community for their feedback on this new community open space.

We received more than 300 pieces of feedback from the Pakenham community via an online survey, interactive map and two virtual workshops. Common themes we found were:

  • Parks, gardens and seating
  • Playgrounds
  • Sport and recreation
  • Safety
  • Multipurpose spaces
  • Cycling and walking

We heard that the creation of parks and gardens where people can enjoy time with family and friends was a high priority for the community. The inclusion of active spaces and an outdoor entertainment area was also a popular request.

Security for residents, pedestrians, cyclists and train and bus passengers was also a key issue for respondents.

Integrating art into the open space areas is a high priority for the community, with many suggesting art work that celebrates Pakenham’s rich Aboriginal and European culture.

The feedback will play an important role in shaping the open space, making sure the area meets the needs of the local community.

You can read more in the community consultation report. We’ll share our final designs of the new open space soon, and show you how your feedback has been incorporated.
