Your new open space is ready
We're removing 85 level crossings – with 56 already gone for good. The level crossings at Koornang and Grange roads in Carnegie were removed in February 2018 as part of the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project.
Works are now complete on the new open spaces in Carnegie.
Shaped by feedback from the local community, the new spaces include a children's playground and recreation facilities.
The new spaces now offer families, sport enthusiasts and people of all ages an opportunity to stay active.
We heard from the community
- 242 surveys complete
- 685 comments in total
- 76 door knocks in the local area
New open space features
- children’s playground at Woorayl Street Reserve
- multipurpose recreation space at Girdwood Avenue
- 27 new trader car spaces on Egan Street
- over 4000 shrubs and bushes and 24 trees planted
Girdwood Avenue
The Girdwood Avenue half court features the top voted colour swatch and line markings.
A multipurpose space for all
You asked for more facilities that are inclusive to the senior residents in the area. We listened and installed combined activity equipment designed to improve strength, balance, functional movement, joint range and mobility. People of all ages can have a go at using the balance stool, core twister, balancing bridge, and net obstacle.
People of all ages can have a go at using the balance stool, core twister, balancing bridge and net obstacle.
The space connects to existing pedestrian and bike paths, creating safer access to surrounding businesses and better connections to Carnegie Station.
Woorayl Street Reserve
Woorayl Street Reserve is now home to a new children's playground. During community consultation, we are asked you to vote for which playground equipment to include.
We listened and have installed the top voted equipment including a swing set, treehouse with a double slide, merry-go-round and seesaw.
In addition, we've planted shrubs and bushes to protect the red gum trees.
Additional facilities installed include bins, seating and a picnic table.

We completed these spaces in four months.
Egan Street
The 27 new car spaces at Egan Street are located at the southern end of the street and will service businesses along Egan Street and Koornang Road.
Thank you
On behalf of the Carnegie Open Space project, team we would like to thank the local community for their patience during construction.
