The Hurstbridge Line Duplication will deliver further improvements, including more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better connections to public transport in Melbourne’s north east.
Works include building new modern stations at Greensborough and Montmorency, and duplicating the rail track between Greensborough and Montmorency and between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen, to allow more trains to run more often.
Reducing waste and water
We will install rainwater tanks at stations – a 15kL rainwater tank at Greensborough Station and a 3kL rainwater tank at Montmorency Station – for toilets, washdown areas and landscaping, reducing water usage by 50 per cent.
Erosion and sediment control
At Hurstbridge, we’ll use an innovative Filter Mat system that is used to cover all drains and captures sediments.
This will minimise sediments moving into drains, as part of ERSED (Erosion and Sediments Controls).
The Filter Mats are durable and are reused at other projects.
Trees, vegetation and landscaping
When works are complete, we’ll plant over 1900 trees and 37,500 plants, shrubs and grasses between Greensborough and Montmorency and Diamond Creek to Wattle Glen.
This will include over 700 trees and 15,000 shrubs, grasses, climbers and groundcovers in and around the Montmorency Station precinct.
Groundcovers are plants, shrubs or grasses that grow over the surface of the ground and can help to prevent soil erosion and weeds.
We focused on providing a resilient, sustainable landscape by selecting drought-tolerant plants with low water usage and high growth performance.
Across the Hurstbridge Line Duplication project, we have invested over $800,000 so far in organisations that provide employment and training to disadvantaged groups in their communities.
We will install solar panels at Greensborough and Montmorency stations. Together they will produce 30kW.
These panels reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
