The second stage of the Hurstbridge Line Duplication delivered further improvements for Melbourne’s north east, including more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better connections to public transport.

We duplicated 2km of rail track between Greensborough and Montmorency stations, and 1.5km of track between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen stations to allow more trains to run more often.

New modern stations at Greensborough and Montmorency were also built, and Diamond Creek Station was upgraded.

Planned timeline

Site investigations and community consultation began in 2019, with works underway in 2021.

Trains began running along the new duplicated track and stopped at the new stations at the end of April 2023.

Project finishing works continue in 2024 as we complete stage one of the new shared walking and cycling path between Greensborough and Montmorency.
