11 December 2025

We’re getting ready to run longer nine-car VLocity trains on the Melton Line from 2027, one year ahead of schedule. Running longer trains will boost passenger capacity by 50 per cent during peak services.

To allow the longer trains to stop along the line, we’re extending the platforms at Deer Park Station.

We’ll be working 24 hours a day from 11pm, Saturday 10 January to 4am, Saturday 24 January at Deer Park Station and around the rail corridor.

What we’re doing

  • Extending existing platforms
  • Modifying platform shelters
  • Completing rail signalling, underground services and track works.

There will be changes to how you move around the Deer Park Station precinct with temporary car park closures and the southern pedestrian access temporarily closed with pedestrian detours in place. Please see map over the page.

There will be service changes on the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines with buses/coaches replacing trains between Southern Cross and Bacchus Marsh stations from 11pm, Saturday 10 January to last service, Friday 23 January 2026.

Visit transport.vic.gov.au for more information and to plan your journey. Please allow extra travel time.

What to expect

  • Works taking place 24 hours a day.
  • Traffic management and pedestrian detours in place to assist drivers, pedestrians and bike riders.
  • Construction vehicles travelling through the station car park to access the site.
  • An increase in construction vehicles, noise, traffic management and workers in the area.
  • An increase in lighting during night works.
  • Temporary car park closures in and around Deer Park Station.

Access to residential properties and Deer Park Station will be maintained at all times.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however dates and times are subject to change.
