26 May 2025
We’re making the Sunbury Line level crossing free in 2025, a year ahead of schedule, removing 8 dangerous and congested level crossings to improve safety and reduce congestion. At Calder Park Drive, we’re removing the level crossing by building a new road bridge over the rail line.
Calder Park Drive road closure and 24/7 works
Over June and July, we’ll work 24/7 to finish the new road bridge. To complete works safely, Calder Park Drive will be closed to traffic between the Glenbruar Drive / Manchester Drive roundabout and the Calder Freeway from 1am, Saturday 21 June to 6am, Wednesday 23 July.
The new Calder Park Drive road bridge will open to traffic on Wednesday 23 July.
The nearby level crossing at Holden Road will close to traffic permanently from 7am, Wednesday 23 July.
What we’re doing
In June and July, we’ll be:
- Setting up a large 750 tonne crane on Calder Park Drive next to the rail line.
- Installing 9 large concrete beams over the rail line to form the new road bridge.
- Concreting, asphalting, line marking and tying in the road bridge with Calder Park Drive.
- Installing anti-throw screens, precast barriers, kerbs, street light poles, guardrails and signage.
- Adjusting approximately 900m of overhead wiring along the railway tracks.
- Installing rail signalling equipment and conduits, and continuing landscaping and drainage works.
- Upgrading culverts at Taylors Creek and removing the temporary sections of Calder Park Drive.
What to expect
- Traffic management will be in place, including a road closure, lane closures and reduced speed limits.
- Machinery moving around the area and deliveries including large concrete beams and materials.
- Increased construction noise and light. We aim to minimise noise and light spill as much as possible.
- Access to properties and local businesses will be maintained via local roads.
