Facilitated by the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), the session started with an Acknowledgement of Country and welcomed participants to the second online project update for the Diggers Rest Level Crossing Removal Project.
The project team welcomed community members to the meeting and a general overview of the project was provided, including:
- An update on construction at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road
- Upcoming works and change to the way locals will travel
- How we’re engaging with the community
Members of the project team shared videos and provided an update on works happening at both sites including:
- The opening of the new Golden Way road bridge at Old Calder Highway
- New bus stops at Diggers Rest Station
- The upgraded road section linking Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road to Old Calder Highway
- Removal of the boom gates and supporting infrastructure at the Old Calder Highway level crossing
- Super-T beam installation at Watsons Road
A summary of the ongoing community engagement activities was presented, including an overview of the range of communication materials, channels and activities used to keep the community informed and provide responses to their queries during construction.
The project team answered questions from participants, including:
- Signalisation of pedestrian crossings in the precinct
- Vehicle access arrangements at the Diggers Rest Station western car park
- Plans to build a pedestrian overpass for pedestrians to go over the rail tracks
- The new bike path on Golden Way and how it will connect to the pedestrian network
