We’ve removed the 86^th level crossing by opening the Golden Way road bridge in Diggers Rest, we’re also removing the level crossing at Watsons Road, Diggers Rest and making Sunbury level crossing free in 2025.

In August, we will work at night in and around the rail corridor at Old Calder Highway and Watsons Road to complete works while trains aren’t running.

What we’re doing

Old Calder Highway

• Signalling and track works (grinding and tamping)
• Installing track drainage

Watsons Road

• Painting sections of the bridge
• Installing concrete barriers on the bridge
• Signalling and track works (grinding and tamping)
• Earthworks along track

When we’ll work

We will work at night in the rail corridor and within project sites at Watsons Road and Old Calder Highway:

• From 8pm to 6am each night from Monday 18 August to Thursday 21 August
• Continuously from 8pm, Friday 22 August to 6am, Monday 25 August.

In addition to these works, MTM Maintenance will also be undertaking 24/7 works from Thursday 21 August to Monday 25 August.

There may be other times when we need to work at night when there is less traffic, or trains are not running. If this happens, we will inform impacted residents before works start.

At other times, we will work:

• Monday to Friday – 7am to 6pm
• Saturday (as required) – 7am to 3pm

What to expect

You may notice low, moderate and high levels of noise, as well as dust and vibration. You may also notice construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Watsons Road, Buckley Road, Crinnion Road, Diggers Rest-Bulla Road, Old Calder Highway, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, Tame Street, Welcome Road, School Lane and in the Diggers Rest Station car parks.

Changes to the way you travel

Sunbury Line

Buses replace trains:

• between North Melbourne and Sunbury stations from 9pm to last service each night, Monday 18 August to Wednesday 20 August
• between Watergardens and Sunbury stations from 9pm to last service, Thursday 21 August
• between Sunshine and Sunbury stations from 9pm, Friday 22 August to last service, Sunday 24 August.

Rail replacement bus services at Diggers Rest Station will use the bus stops on the new road bridge.
