We’ve removed the 86^th level crossing by opening the Golden Way road bridge in Diggers Rest, we’re also removing the level crossing at Watsons Road, Diggers Rest and making Sunbury level crossing-free in 2025.

In July, we will remove the boom gates and other level crossing infrastructure at Old Calder Highway. We will also continue to work on landscaping around the new road bridge, the new forecourt on the eastern side of the station as well as build the Watsons Road bridge structure.

What we’re doing

Old Calder Highway

• Remove the boom gates and level crossing infrastructure at Old Calder Highway
• Complete road works on Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road and Old Calder Highway
• Finish works in the western station car park
• Continue landscaping around the new road bridge and station
• Build a new forecourt on the eastern side of the station.

Watsons Road

• Start painting the bridge
• Work within the rail corridor
• Conduct utility services works and install drainage
• Build access tracks on both sides of the bridge
• Install steel and pour concrete to construct the bridge deck
• Install concrete barriers on the bridge.

When we’ll work

We will work at night in the rail corridor and within project sites at Watsons Road and Old Calder Highway:

• From 9pm to 5am each night on Tuesday 8, Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 July
• Continuously from 12am Friday 25 July to 5am Tuesday 29 July 2025.

There may be other times when night works are required when there is less traffic or no trains are running. If this happens, we will inform impacted residents before works start.

At other times, we will work:

• Monday to Friday – 7am to 6pm
• Saturday (as required) – 7am to 3pm.

What to expect

You may notice low, moderate and high levels of noise, as well as dust and vibration. You may also notice construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Watsons Road, Buckley Road, Crinnion Road, Diggers Rest-Bulla Road, Old Calder Highway, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, Tame Street, Welcome Road, School Lane and in the Diggers Rest Station car parks.

Changes to the way you travel

Old Calder Highway, between Punjel Drive and Odyssey Drive and

• Intermittent lane closures from Monday 21 July to Friday 29 August on weekdays, 7am to 6pm. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Old Calder Highway, between Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road and Universal Court

• Intermittent lane closures from Monday 21 July to Friday 29 August on weekdays, 7am to 6pm. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, between Tame Street and Old Calder Highway

• Intermittent lane closures from Monday 21 July to Friday 29 August on weekdays, 9.30am to 3.30pm. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Golden Way

• Intermittent lane closures from Monday 21 July to Friday 29 August on weekdays, 7am to 6pm. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Pedestrian crossing at Old Calder Highway level crossing

• The pedestrian crossing at the level crossing will be closed from 1am Friday 25 July to 3am Tuesday 29 July. An accessible shuttle bus will take pedestrians from one side of the rail line to the other.

Diggers Rest Station, eastern car park

• The eastern station car park will be closed from 1am Friday 25 July to 3am Tuesday 29 July. Please use the western car park during this time.

Diggers rest Station, western car park

• Around 15 car spaces in the western car park, near the pedestrian crossing, will be closed from 7am Monday 21 July to 6pm Friday 29 August
• Around 40 car spaces in the middle section of the western car park will be closed from 7am Wednesday 30 July to 6pm Friday 29 August. Please use remaining available spaces.

Sunbury Line

• Buses replace trains on sections of the Sunbury Line from Friday 25 July to last service Monday 28 July. Rail replacement bus services at Diggers Rest Station will use the bus stops on Golden Way. For more information please visit the PTV website or call 1800 800 007.
