We’ve removed the 86^th level crossing by opening the Golden Way road bridge in Diggers Rest, we’re also removing the level crossing at Watsons Road, Diggers Rest and making Sunbury level crossing free in 2025.

In September and October, finishing works will be ongoing at Old Calder Highway, and the new Watsons Road bridge will continue to take shape.

What we’re doing

Old Calder Highway

• Continuing landscaping across the site, including the east and west forecourts near the station, and on the eastern side of Old Calder Highway.
• Installing fencing in various locations.
• Installing new road asphalt on Old Calder Highway.
• Installing drainage on both sides of the rail line.
• Completing access roads.

Watsons Road

• Continuing road works and installing barriers on the new bridge.
• Installing a pedestrian path on the bridge.
• Creating maintenance access tracks on both sides of the bridge.
• Installing drainage.
• Installing lighting.
• Continue painting the bridge.

When we’ll work

• 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
• 7am to 3pm, Saturday (as required)

What to expect

You may notice low, moderate and high levels of noise, as well as dust and vibration. You may also notice construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Watsons Road, Buckley Road, Crinnion Road, Diggers Rest-Bulla Road, Old Calder Highway, Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road, Tame Street, Welcome Road, School Lane and in the Diggers Rest Station car parks.

Changes to the way you travel

Road

Old Calder Highway

Intermittent and temporary lane closures:

• between Punjel Drive and Odyssey Drive from 7am to 6pm, Monday 1 September until Friday 31 October on weekdays.
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
• between Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road and Universal Court from 7am to 6pm, Monday 1 September until Friday 31 October on weekdays.
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.
• Road closed from 7am to 6pm daily, Monday 22 September and Tuesday 23 September to allow for asphalting.
  • Please detour via Punjel Drive during these works.
  • Access will be maintained to Diggers Rest Bowls Club.

Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road

Off-peak, intermittent and temporary lane closures:

• between Tame Street and Old Calder Highway from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday 1 September to Tuesday 30 September on weekdays.

Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Golden Way

Off-peak, intermittent and temporary lane closures:

• between Tame Street and Old Calder Highway from 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday 1 September to Friday 31 October on weekdays.

Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

Parking

Diggers Rest Station western car park

• Around 15 spaces in the western station car park (near the pedestrian crossing) closed from 7am, Monday 1 September until 6pm, Tuesday 30 September to facilitate project works.
• Around 40 spaces in the middle section of the western station car park closed from 7am, Monday 1 September until 6pm, Tuesday 30 September.
• Please use remaining available spaces.

Cycling

• The bike path on Golden Way is now open. No pedestrian access.
