St Albans transformation almost complete
The boom gates at Main and Furlong Roads are now history and 2 new stations are up and running at St Albans and Ginifer.
These are great milestones, but there's more to be done before we finish the job in mid-2017. The project team still need to install essential track drainage north of Main Road.
They'll be working on the rail line and at both stations around-the-clock 24 hours a day for one week in March to get this done.
The train line must be closed during this time to allow our crews to safely complete this essential work.
Buses replacing trains
Buses will replace trains from the first service on Wednesday 8 March to the last service on Monday 13 March.
A range of different buses will be operating, including express, limited express and stopping all stations services to help make your journey as direct as possible. Please allow an extra 40 minutes to your travel time.
Normal train services scheduled to resume Tuesday 14 March. For journey planning and service information, visit ptv.vic.gov.au or call 1800 800 007.
Five new retail spaces coming soon to St Albans Station
The team has been making progress on the new retail buildings at St Albans Station, assembling the steel structure that will house 5 new shops. Along with the new bus interchange, these shops will be a great place for people to meet up while waiting for their bus or train.
Home stretch at both stations
Finishing works at both stations continue and the project is on track for completion in mid-2017.
At St Albans Station the project team are working on the new retail spaces, bus interchange, car parks and landscaping.
At Furlong Road and Ginifer Station the team are focused on finishing the outer-facade of the station building, landscaping, car park works and the final asphalting on St Albans Road and Willaton Street.
St Albans Station/McKechnie Street bus stop
Temporary bus stop closures and diversions for routes 423 and 425 will be in place from first service Monday 27 February until Wednesday 15 March to allow for landscaping, kerb and pavement works along McKechnie Street.
A temporary bus stop will operate at the top of West Esplanade.
Construction underway on new bus interchange
Works have commenced for the new bus interchange at St Albans Station. Moving the bus interchange to the station will provide better connectivity for transport users and the new interchange will be up and running by the end of May.
Furlong Road night closures
The project team will be completing the final asphalt surface works at Furlong Road, St Albans Road and Willaton Street intersections. The works are planned for nights to minimise the impact to road users and pedestrians.
Trucks, rollers, lighting and traffic management advising of detours will be in place during these works. Crews will be working on St Albans Road, near Furlong Road, from 9pm to 6am each night between 14 March and 16 March.
Crews will be working on Willaton Street near Furlong Road, from 9:00pm to 6:00am each night between 19 March and 22 March.
Be safe around the new spaces
There have been big changes at Main and Furlong roads, and it's important to adjust to the new traffic conditions. Pedestrians should always cross the road safely at one of the new pedestrian crossings and drivers should obey traffic signals at all times.
Remember: safety is everyone's responsibility.
