Early site investigations

The Victorian Government is getting on with making the Werribee Line boom gate-free by 2030, paving the way for more trains more often.

We are closing the dangerous and congested level crossing at Anderson Street in Yarraville and building a new pedestrian underpass by 2030. This will keep the area moving and allow for more trains more often on the Werribee Line.

What we’re doing

As part of our early project planning, we are conducting soil sampling and utility (underground services) investigations to assist in design development and to better understand local ground conditions.

These soil sampling works and utility investigations will take place on Canterbury Street near the rail line in early February. Activities include non-destructive digging to identify underground utilities and collecting soil samples using a drilling rig.

What to expect

  • Works on Canterbury Street will occur on weekdays between 7am and 5pm from Thursday 5 February to Wednesday 11 February.
  • Crews will be using a drilling rig and other small machinery to conduct works at each location.
  • Some moderate noise is expected at times.
  • Temporary safety fencing will be installed around work areas.
  • Traffic management will be in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area.

We’ll make every effort to minimise disruption and complete works on schedule however dates and locations are subject to change due to weather or ground conditions.

Changes to the way you travel

To safely complete these investigations, there will be intermittent traffic and pedestrian changes, including temporary speed reductions on local roads. There will be no impact to train services during these works.

Parking

Sections of on-street parking will be temporarily unavailable on Canterbury Street:

  • Between 7am and 5pm from Thursday 5 February to Wednesday 11 February.

Please note these locations are subject to change, and other small sections of parking in this area may be impacted as we complete the works.
