Early site investigations

The Victorian Government is getting on with making the Werribee Line boom gate-free by 2030, paving the way for more trains more often.

We’re removing the Hudsons Road level crossing with a rail bridge and building a new Spotswood Station with better facilities for passengers. Elevating the rail line provides better walking and cycling connections to the local neighbourhood and unlocks opportunities to rejuvenate the station precinct including planting more trees and greenery.

What we're doing

As part of our early project planning, we are conducting soil sampling and utility (underground services) investigations to assist in design development and to better understand local ground conditions.

These soil sampling works and utility investigations will take place at various locations near the rail corridor from Thursday 27 November until early December.

Works include collecting soil samples using a drilling rig and non-destructive digging to investigate where utilities are in the area.

What to expect

  • The works will occur between 7am and 6pm on weekdays.
  • It will take around 3 days for workers to collect soil samples at each location using a drilling rig and other small machinery.
  • Drilling rig movement along local roads.
  • Crews in the area conducting utility, ecological, traffic and visual site investigations.
  • Some moderate noise.
  • Temporary safety fencing installed at each investigation site while we are working.
  • Traffic management to help guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area where required.

Every effort will be made to complete these works on schedule. However, these dates and locations are subject to change.

Changes to the way you travel

Some small sections of street parking will be occupied during and outside of work hours while we complete the investigations, with around 4 car parks unavailable at any one time for around 3 days on Hall Street and Hope Street.

Please note these locations are subject to change, and other small sections of parking in this area may be impacted as we complete the works.
