On 2 March 2018, the Minister for Planning designated the Kororoit Creek Road, Williamstown North Level Crossing Removal Project Area under section 95 of the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act 2009 (MTPF Act). A variation to the project area was made on 10 January 2019 under section 96 of the MTPF Act.

The project area is shown in the plans LEGL./17-340 Sheets 1 to 15 (inclusive) PDF, 1.6 MB. The variation to the project area is shown in LEGL./18-103 Sheets 1 of 1 PDF, 2.2 MB.

The designation of the project area enables the project proponent (the Secretary to the Department of Transport and Planning) to use the project delivery powers under the MTPF Act.
