We’re getting rid of the level crossing at Maidstone Street, Altona to improve safety and create better connections in the suburb. The Werribee Line will be boom gate free by 2030.
What we're doing
We’re preparing to remove the level crossing at Maidstone Street by 2027.
The level crossing will be removed by building a road bridge over the rail line, avoiding impacts to important utilities and protected grasslands, and creating better connections for this busy industrial area.
To help inform the project design, site investigations will continue in the area throughout December 2024 and January 2025.
During this time, we’ll:
- carry out land and utility surveying across the site and rail corridor
- conduct environmental and soil assessments.
What to expect
While we work, you may notice:
- construction crews, vehicles, and equipment in the area
- non-destructive digging trucks working in the area
- low to moderate noise levels.
Working hours
- 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
- 7am to 5pm on Saturdays
- Some out of hours may be required at times.
Changes to the way you travel
As part of site investigations, we will be carrying out non-destructive digging and soil testing in the area around the Maidstone Street level crossing.
The road will remain open, and traffic control will be in place to help you get where you need to go.
