We’re getting rid of the level crossing at Maidstone Street, Altona to improve safety and create better connections in the suburb. The Werribee Line will be boom gate free by 2030.

What we're doing

We’re getting ready to remove the level crossing at Maidstone Street, by building a road bridge over the rail line.

Works to set up our site compounds and project storage areas south of the rail line, will commence from April.

Site establishment works will include:

  • delivery and installation of site offices
  • installation of temporary fencing around the site areas and constructing storage areas south of the rail line
  • ongoing site investigation works.

Tree and vegetation removal

To enable us to build the new road bridge, some tree and vegetation removal is required along Maidstone Street and in the surrounding area.

This will take place in stages from late April to July. The first stage will be north of the rail line, removing trees required for site establishment and the new road alignment.

Careful planning is undertaken to minimise tree removal and reduce impacts to local flora and fauna.

What to expect

General working hours are Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 7am and 3pm. Some out of hours works may be required at times.

Temporary traffic management, including intermittent lane closures and reduced speed limits will be in place.

Increased construction noise and activity, with vehicles and workers moving around the area.
