We’re removing the level crossing at Maidstone Street, Altona by building a new road bridge over the rail line to improve safety and create better connections.

Major construction is underway. Thank you for your patience as we deliver this important project.

What we’re doing in July

In July, we will:

  • lift the bridge beams on the northern side of the level crossing
  • continue to construct the southern approach to the new road bridge and install the retaining walls
  • continue to relocate underground power, gas, sewer, water and telecommunication services along Maidstone Street and surrounding roads. We are working closely with service providers who will communicate with you directly if services, or access, are affected.

Out of hours works

From 11pm to 5am, on Tuesday 14 July and Wednesday 15 July the site will be open to receive the delivery of beams. There may be some intermittent traffic delays. No construction works will occur during this time.

What to expect

  • Normal working hours are Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 7am and 3pm, with some out of hours works at times.
  • Intermittent, traffic stops will take place during the beam lifts.
  • Reduced speed limits and traffic management will be in place around our work areas, resulting in delays at times. Please follow all directional signage and travel safely when moving through the area.
  • Increase in construction vehicles, delivery trucks and machinery moving around the area.
  • Traffic management and light towers in place to ensure works can occur safely.
  • During some activities you may notice an increase in construction noise, vibration and dust.
