We’re removing the level crossing at Maidstone Street, Altona by building a new road bridge over the rail line to improve safety and create better connections.

Major construction is underway. Thank you for your patience as we deliver this important project.

What we’re doing

In May, we’ll continue to:

• construct the new road bridge, now the first bridge beams are in place
• construct a new temporary road along the north-eastern side of Maidstone Street to keep you moving while we build the bridge
• relocate underground power, gas, sewer, water and telecommunication services along Maidstone Street and surrounding roads. We are working closely with service providers who will communicate with you directly if services, or access, are affected.

What to expect

• Normal working hours are Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 7am and 3pm.
• Reduced speed limits and traffic management will be in place around our work areas, resulting in delays at times. Please follow all directional signage and travel safely when moving through the area.
• Increase in construction vehicles, delivery trucks and machinery moving around the area.
• Traffic management and light towers present to ensure the works can take place safely.
• During some activities you may notice an increase in construction noise, vibration and dust.
