We’re removing the level crossing at Maidstone Street, Altona by building a new road bridge over the rail line to improve safety and create better connections.

Major construction is underway, with the project due for completion next year. Thanks for your patience while we complete these important works.

What we’re doing in November

In November, we will:

  • continue building the new road bridge including the road approaches and supporting drainage
  • commence building the shared use path on the road bridge and footpaths in surrounding areas
  • temporarily remove the light pole in the roundabout at the intersection of Maidstone Street and Civic Parade
  • undertake site investigations and pavement works along a section of Maidstone Street. We’ll speak directly with any stakeholders impacted by these works
  • continue relocating power, gas, sewer and water services along Maidstone Street and nearby roads. Service providers will contact you directly if services or access are affected.

Out of hours works

To minimise impacts on local businesses, some works on Maidstone Street will be undertaken outside normal working hours.

What to expect

  • Normal working hours are Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 7am and 3pm, with some out of hours works at times.
  • Reduced speed limits and traffic management will be in place around our work areas, resulting in delays at times. Please follow all directional signage and travel safely when moving through the area.
  • Temporary speed reductions will apply on Civic Parade in October. Please observe onsite signage.
  • Increase in construction vehicles, delivery trucks and machinery moving around the area.
  • During some activities you may notice an increase in construction noise, vibration and dust.
